  • Starting in 2011, Beijing Normal University has offered "English-Taught Master Programs" in Faculty of Education, School of Social Development and Public Policy, School of Environment, and School of Economics and Business Administration, hoping to enroll promising overseas students. So far, there are six PhD programs and eight master programs and all the courses in the programs are taught in English, aiming to cultivate talents who not only possess a high professional proficiency but are also familiar with Chinese society and culture. BNU will provide scholarships for excellent applicants.

    I.    Application Eligibility

    1. Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens holding a foreign passport and under 50 years old (Note for Chinese Government Scholarships applicants: master's degree applicants should be under 35 years old; doctorate degree applicants should be under 40 years old).

    2. Applicants should be in good health and of good character, respect Chinese habits and customs and be willing to abide by both Chinese Law & Regulations and School Rules & Regulations.

    3. Applicants for Masters Degrees should have a degree equivalent (or above) to a Bachelor’s degree from a Chinese university. Applicants for Doctoral Degrees should have a degree which is equivalent (or above) to a Master’s degree from a Chinese university.

            4. Applicants from non-English speaking countries should submit proof of English language proficiency. Please refer to the form above to see specific requirements of the program you wish to apply for.

    II. Application Period

    Online Application lasts between December 9th, 2019 and April 15th, 2020.

    Application documents should be mailed/submitted from March 16th, 2020 to April 15th, 2020. Deadline is based on documents mailed/submitted before April 15th)

    For scholarship applicants, the application deadline is subject to the application date of various scholarships.

    III. Application Materials                                              

    Applicants must first visit http://apply.bnu.edu.cn/, complete the online application procedure and pay the application fee. The following documents should be mailed or submitted in person to BNU Provost’s Office and Academic Affairs, Admission Office (A103, Main Building).

    1) Application Form for International Students with a photograph. Please fill in the application form, submit online and print a hardcopy. Please make sure that the application form is signed by the applicant and the guarantor of the applicant. Application form without the applicant and the guarantor’s signatures will be invalid.

    2) Two recommendation letters from two associate professors or scholars with higher academic titles. (There is no specified format for the recommendation letters, all letters must be signed by the referee).

    3) BNU Personal Statement Form (Master's Program, Ph.D. Program); please complete the form in either Chinese or English and make sure to sign);

    4) Masters’ degree applicants: Graduation certificate, degree diploma and official transcripts of your undergraduate program. The documents must be original or authenticated/notarized copies, either in Chinese or English (Chinese or English notarized translations are required for other languages).

    Ph.D. applicants: Graduation certificate, degree diploma and official transcripts of your master’s program; the abstract of your master’s degree thesis. The documents must be original or authenticated/notarized copies, either in Chinese or English. (Chinese or English notarized translations are required for other languages).

    * All academic records should bear the original/true stamp or seal of the institution. Notarized copies should bear the original/true stamp or seal of the notary office.

    * Applicants who will graduate in 2020 must submit Certificate of Expected Graduation. After being admitted by the University, the official graduation documents must be submitted during registration, otherwise the admission will be withdrawn.

    5) Proof of Chinese language proficiency (HSK certificate and transcript) or proof of English proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.); please see “III. Application Requirements” for detailed information.

    6) Application fee of 600 RMB (non-refundable). It should be paid online or by UnionPay cards during application. (Please note: Application fee is also required for scholarship application.)

    7) Two passport-sized photos (with white background, not including the one on the form, with the name of the applicant and the faculty/department applied for written on the back)

    8) Two photocopies of applicant's passport information page (only ordinary and valid passport is allowed);

    9) (Optional) Academic papers, patents, or other academic achievements, CV/Resume (originals or photocopies).

    10) CSC Scholarship applicants must submit the following additional materials:

    a. CSC Scholarship application form (two copies);

    b. One copy of “Foreigner Physical Examination Form” (the applicant may keep the original document).

    Please click and download “Foreigner Physical Examination Form”, which is printed by Chinese quarantine authority. It is only for those whose study period in China will last up to six months (filled in Chinese or English) and should be printed on both sides. The medical examination must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please choose the appropriate time to take medical examination as it is valid for only 6 months.

    11) Beijing Government Scholarship and Beijing Normal University Scholarship applicants should submit "APPLICATION FORM OF SCHOLARSHIP FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS".

    Incomplete or unpaid applications will not be processed; electronic copies of application materials sent through email will not be accepted.

    The University keeps the right to require additional materials from the applicants.

           ★ Application materials and application fee are non-refundable and will not be returned, regardless of whether the applicant is admitted by the University.


    IV.    Selection Criteria

    Selection is based on a process of comprehensive review.

    The comprehensive review includes a professional assessment of the applicant’s academic background and achievements. If necessary, some faculties/departments may organize interviews as a part of the review. The purpose of the interview is to examine the applicant's professional knowledge of their specialty, language proficiency and their overall qualification.

    Introduction

    Beijing Normal University (BNU) was founded in 1902 and is one of the most prestigious universities in China. As per the QS World University Rankings 2018, BNU ranks 8 among universities on mainland China. The Belt and Road School (BRS) is located in BNU’s Zhuhai campus in the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macau Greater Bay Area, which is one of the most economically vibrant regions in the world. To support the Belt and Road Initiative and the development of the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macau Greater Bay Area, BRS is encouraging applications from excellent graduates in Economics, Management, Political Sciences, Law and in any of the other relevant fields to enroll, according to their qualifications, in either the Master of Business Administration (MBA) or the Master of Public Administration (MPA) programs offered in BNU’s Zhuhai Campus.

    The faculty of the Master’s programs consists of professors from top ranking universities, specialists and scholars, former politicians, leaders from the international financial community and managers from global companies. Our distinguished faculty members include: L. Enrique Garcia, former Executive President of CAF – Development Bank of Latin America; Djoomart Otorbaev, former Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan; Rajat M. Nag, former Managing Director General of Asian Development Bank; Zlatko Lagumdzija, former Prime Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina; Grzegorz W. Kolodko, former Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Poland, etc. 

            Programs

    BRS offers a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) program. The two programs will respectively admit 50 students each academic year. Both programs require a two-year full-time study and all classes will be taught in English.

    The total tuition for each program is 60,000 RMB. BRS will offer full or partial scholarships based on the overall assessment of the applicants.

    When a student has fulfilled all credit requirements and passed the thesis defense, BNU will grant her/him the appropriate degree of Master of Business Administration or Master of Public Administration.        

    MBA Program

    The MBA program provides a high qualification in different management disciplines, building on solid analytical skills. Students will get familiar with international business strategy and have a strong sense of social responsibility. By acquiring an in-depth understanding of the mission, goal and opportunities of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macau Greater Bay Area, students will become a management elite capable of seizing new development opportunities.  

    MPA Program

    The MPA program aims at developing decision makers who have not only mastered basic theories, methods and techniques of public administration and public policy, but also specialized in cross-cultural communication and cross-cultural management. Through an in-depth understanding about the historical background, mission and public policies of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macau Greater Bay Area, students will become professionals who can handle increasingly complex public affairs.

    Core courses include, but are not limited to:

    Introduction of the Belt and Road Initiative;

    The Development and Management of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area;

    The Economy and Development of Emerging Market Countries;

    China Social Economic Survey. 

    Scholarships

    The MBA and MPA programs offer full and partial scholarships. A full scholarship will provide a tuition waiver for two academic years, a health insurance, and a stipend for housing and living. A partial scholarship will provide a tuition waiver for two academic years, a health insurance, and a partial stipend for living. 

            Admission Requirements

    1. Applicants must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, comply with China’s laws and regulations, and the regulations of BNU;

    2. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree or above. One year or longer of working experience is preferred;

    3. Applicants should demonstrate an adequate level of proficiency in English;

    4. Applicants should be in good health and not carrying diseases that might imply the denial of entry into China under Chinese laws and regulations (according to the formal classification of “Prohibited entry into China”). 

             Required Documents

    1. Undergraduate transcript and bachelor's degree certificate;

    2. Two recommendation letters;

    3. Personal statement and resume (CV) accompanied by a short video clip to introduce yourself;

    4. Health certificate;

    5. Applicants who are native English speakers or have successfully completed full-time study at a recognized university (in which the sole language of instruction and assessment was English) are not required to provide internationally recognized English language proficiency test results. Other applicants who do not meet these conditions must submit TOEFL (higher than 85) or IELTS (higher than 6.0) results;

    6. One copy of Standard Chinese Visa Photo and two copies of a valid ordinary passport. 

             Admission Process

    Online application period: December 9, 2019 – April 15, 2020

    Interview: May 2020 

    1. Online registration: Register an account and sign into http://apply.bnu.edu.cn/, and provide all the required information and submit the completed application form; A non-refundable application fee of 600RMB must be paid through the online payment system on the website;

    2. Please email the application form with all required documents (including photos and videos) to brs0926@bnu.edu.cn;

    3. Applicants who have successfully passed the evaluation process will be notified via email for online interview by mid-May, 2020;

    4. Admission results will be sent to successful applicants from mid-June, 2020.

BEIJING NORMAL UNIVERSITY 2020 ENGLISH-TAUGHT CREDIT PROGRAM ADMISSIONS BROCHURE

The English-taught credit program is based on undergraduate and graduate courses that are taught in English. The program is open to international students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. It provides nearly 100 professional courses covering six disciplines including Education, Economics, Management, Environmental science, Geography and Law. Applicants can take undergraduate and graduate courses in BNU faculties, schools or departments as general advanced studies students and senior advanced studies students respectively. The study period is one semester or more, and the number of courses that can be selected in one semester is three or four.

I. Application Requirements

1. Non-Chinese citizen holding a valid foreign passport and between 18-45 years old.

2. Applicants of undergraduate courses should be in their second year of university (including) or above.

3. Applicants of graduate courses should have a master’s degree (or equivalent) or above.

4. Non-native English speakers must provide proof of English as a language of instruction issued by the school they are attending, or certificate of English proficiency: IELTS 5.5 or above or TOEFL 80 or above.

II. Application Period

For September 2020 Admission: March 20, 2020 - June 30, 2020.

III. Application Procedures

Applicants must log on the Beijing Normal University International Student Online Service System (http://apply.bnu.edu.cn), select the “General Visiting Student”, fill in the relevant registration information, and pay the registration fee in time.

After passing the preliminary review in the system, download and print the completed “Beijing Normal University International Students Application Form”. After signing on the application form, please mail or submit all application documents to Beijing Normal University.

IV. Application Documents

1. “Beijing Normal University International Students Application Form”. Please log on Beijing Normal University International Student Online Service System (http://apply.bnu.edu.cn) and fill the form online.

2. A scanned copy of the passport photo page. Applicants who have a Chinese visa must provide a copy of the recent visa page.

3. Certificate of latest academic qualification or certificate of studentship. Applicants should submit the original copy of the certificate of studentship or the photocopy of the certificate of latest academic qualification.

4. Transcript of study of the latest academic qualification, photocopy can be submitted.

5. Three passport-sized photos. Please paste one of them in the designated place on the application form.

6. Two letters of recommendation by your teacher. Exchange students or students dispatched by friendly institutions according to the agreement only need to provide one letter of recommendation by their teacher. The letter of recommendation has no fixed format, they must be signed by the teacher.

7. Application fee of RMB 500. Please pay online through your personal account on Beijing Normal University International Student Online Service System (http://apply.bnu.edu.cn).

8. Applicants holding study visa of institutions in China must provide the original “Agreement of Transfer” and the original “Certificate of Completion” issued by the institution.

* All application documents must be in Chinese or English, please provide the notarized version of documents translated to Chinese or English if the original documents are in other languages.

* Application documents and application fee are non-refundable, they will not be returned regardless of whether the applicant is admitted by the University.

BEIJING NORMAL UNIVERSITY 2020 UNDERGRADUATE CREDIT PROGRAM ADMISSIONS BROCHURE

The undergraduate credit program accepts international students who are in the second year of university (including) or above. They can take undergraduate courses in BNU faculties, schools or departments as general advanced studies students. The study period is one semester or more.

I. Application Requirements

1.      Non-Chinese citizen holding a valid foreign passport and under 45 years old.

2.      Second year of university (including) or above.

3.      Minimum score of 180 and above in the HSK test (Level 5).

II. Application Period

        For September 2020 Admission: March 20, 2020 - June 30, 2020.

III. Application Procedures

Applicants must log on the Beijing Normal University International Student Online Service System (http://apply.bnu.edu.cn), select the “General Visiting Student”, fill in the relevant registration information, and pay the registration fee in time.

After passing the preliminary review in the system, download and print the completed “Beijing Normal University International Students Application Form”. After signing on the application form, please mail or submit all application documents to Beijing Normal University.

3. Meet the relevant Chinese proficiency requirements of the major.

          a) Chinese-taught master’s degree students

-        Chinese Language and Culture College majors: Minimum score of 220 and above in the HSK test (Level 6), minimum score of 65 and above in the HSKK test (Advanced level);

-        School of Chinese Language and Literature majors: Minimum score of 210 and above in the HSK test (Level 5).

-        Majors of other faculties, schools and colleges: Minimum score of 195 and above in the HSK test (Level 5);

          b) Chinese-taught PhD students

-        Chinese Language and Culture College majors: Minimum score of 240 and above in the HSK test (Level 6), minimum score of 65 and above in the HSKK test (Advanced level);

-        School of Chinese Language and Literature majors: Minimum score of 210 and above in the HSK test (Level 5).

-        Majors of other faculties, schools and colleges: Minimum score of 195 and above in the HSK test (Level 5);

For September 2020 Admission: March 20, 2020 - June 30, 2020.

III. Application Procedures

Applicants must log on the Beijing Normal University International Student Online Service System (http://apply.bnu.edu.cn), select the “General Visiting Student”, fill in the relevant registration information, and pay the registration fee in time.

After passing the preliminary review in the system, download and print the completed “Beijing Normal University International Students Application Form”. After signing on the application form, please mail or submit all application documents to Beijing Normal University.

IV. Application Documents

1. “Beijing Normal University International Students Application Form”. Please log on Beijing Normal University International Student Online Service System (http://apply.bnu.edu.cn) and fill the form online.

2. A scanned copy of the passport photo page. Applicants who have a Chinese visa must provide a copy of the recent visa page.

3. Certificate of master’s degree (or equivalent) or above, photocopy can be submitted.

4. HSK certificate and transcript. The examination time on the HSK certificate should be no earlier than December 1, 2017.

5. Three passport-sized photos. Please paste one of them in the designated place on the application form.

6. Two letters of recommendation by your teacher. Exchange students or students dispatched by friendly institutions according to the agreement only need to provide one letter of recommendation by their teacher. The letter of recommendation has no fixed format, they must be signed by the teacher.

7. Application fee of RMB 450. Please pay online through your personal account on Beijing Normal University International Student Online Service System (http://apply.bnu.edu.cn).

8. Applicants holding study visa of institutions in China must provide the original “Agreement of Transfer” and the original “Certificate of Completion” issued by the institution.

* All application documents must be in Chinese or English, please provide the notarized version of documents translated to Chinese or English if the original documents are in other languages.

* Application documents and application fee are non-refundable, they will not be returned regardless of whether the applicant is admitted by the University.

STUDY METHODS AND DURATION:

  Visiting academics undertake research at BNU. Scholars can cooperate with professors at BNU or undertake research with academics at BNU. Research duration is counted in months.
