The Beijing Normal University Summer Short-Term Chinese Language Program, distinguished by its structured, small-class teaching approach, is now open for enrollment! Led by experienced faculty from the School of International Chinese Language Education, the program is designed to help students make significant progress in their Chinese proficiency within a short time frame. Through a dynamic combination of instruction and practice, as well as an engaging, student-centered learning environment, the program fosters linguistic competence, enhances communication skills, and deepens students' understanding of Chinese culture.

II. Program Schedule
The program is offered throughout July and August each year, with six-session options. Applicants may choose a session that best fits their schedule.
III. Curriculum Arrangement
Session A: June 30 – July 11 (2 weeks)
Session B: June 30 – July 25 (4 weeks)
Session C: June 30 – August 8 (6 weeks)
Session D: June 30 – August 22 (8 weeks)
Session E: July 28 – August 8 (2 weeks)
Session F: July 28 – August 22 (4 weeks)
Students may apply for mid-session enrollment in an ongoing program. For instance, a student may request to join the final two weeks of Session B starting on July 14. Students seeking mid-session enrollment must specify their request in the application and contact the Admission Office in advance. (The minimum enrollment period is two weeks.)
The Summer Short-Term Chinese Language Program aims to enhance learners' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Chinese within a short period while deepening their understanding of Chinese culture.
1. Class Structure
The summer program is divided into three proficiency levels: Introductory, Intermediate, and Advanced. Based on placement test results, each level may be further subdivided to accommodate students' varying language proficiencies. For instance, the Introductory level may be categorized into Absolute Introductory, Lower Introductory, and Upper Introductory.
Proficiency Requirements:
l Introductory Level: Designed for learners with no prior Chinese experience or those at HSK 1–2
l Intermediate Level: Designed for learners at HSK 3–4
l Advanced Level: Designed for learners at HSK 5 and above
2. Curriculum Structure
Each proficiency level offers two courses: Reading & Writing and Listening & Speaking (available for classes with a minimum of 15 students). In addition, two cultural experience activities are organized each week, covering topics such as Chinese calligraphy, painting, paper cutting, music, and Chinese martial arts. Participation is voluntarily optional, and activities will be held if at least 20 students enroll. A separate tuition fee applies to cultural experience activities.

5. Grading Criteria
Instructors will assign written or oral homework, in-class tests, and quizzes as needed, which will be recorded as part of the overall coursework grade.

Grades are calculated on a 100-point scale. If a student’s home university has specific grading requirements, grade conversion will be conducted accordingly.

V. Application Eligibility
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport.
2. Applicants must be between 18 and 45 years of age.
3. Applicants must comply with Chinese laws and university regulations and demonstrate respect for local customs and traditions.
VI. Application Process
1. Register and log in to the Beijing Normal University International Student Application System (https://bnu.17gz.org), then complete the online application form and upload a scanned copy of the passport's main page and a recent passport-sized photo. After submitting the application, print the application form and ensure both the applicant and guarantor sign it.
2. Prior to registration, applicants must purchase overseas study insurance that matches the duration of their program, as specified in the university’s guidelines. During on-site registration, applicants must bring the original passport, signed application form (hard copy), and digital admission documents and complete the registration process in accordance with the specific requirements outlined in the registration notice.
Note: Enrollment is limited and will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Cultural Experience Activities:
The summer program offers a diverse range of cultural experience activities, which students may choose to participate in voluntarily. These activities will be held if at least 20 participants enroll and require a separate activity fee. Conducted once or twice per week, each session consists of two class periods and covers areas such as Chinese calligraphy, martial arts, painting, paper cutting, and music, providing learners with an immersive experience in Chinese culture.
Tuition Fees:
60 RMB per class hour, 2 to 4 class hours per week.
Note:
1. Off-Campus Cultural Activities will be only organized for groups of 20 or more participants and include admission fees, round-trip transportation, and administrative costs.
2. The registration fee is non-refundable once paid.
3. Tuition fees are non-refundable after the program has started.
VIII. Accommodation Arrangements
The university provides on-campus accommodation for participants of the Short-Term Chinese Language Program. The cost ranges from 120 RMB to 180 RMB per person per day, depending on the room type (final pricing is subject to actual booking rates). After admission, students should regularly check the application system for dormitory reservation notices and complete the booking online on a first-come, first-served basis. If a dormitory reservation is unsuccessful, students must arrange their own accommodation and submit the required residence registration documents accordingly.
