BNU has been accepting international students since 1965. Since then, it has gain much experience in teaching Chinese as a second language and course development for international students. Each year, the school welcomes long term and short term internationals students from over 94 countries and regions. Currently, there are 1800 long term students, 76% of whom are pursuing academic degrees.
There are degree programs and non-degree programs. Degree programs includes undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Postgraduate programs includes Chinese taught and English taught courses.
